Getting started

Use this guide to create a household or join one, and build your character.

Before you begin

One person creates the household and becomes its Owner. Everyone else joins with a code that person shares. You can't join a household without the code.

Creating a household

Choose Create a household on the login screen. You'll need a household name, a username, a password of at least eight characters, and an email. The currency is filled in from your phone and you can change it.

That email is your way back in if you forget your password — Famify sends a code to it. Confirm the address first with the code Famify sends on signup; an unconfirmed address can't be used for recovery. See Household settings for how recovery works.

An address can only belong to one account. If the one you type is already on another Famify account, signup still works and your household is still created — the address just isn't attached to it, and no confirmation code is sent to you. Famify emails the account that already holds the address to say someone tried. You'll see Add a recovery email on Family instead of Confirm your email; tap it and enter a different address, and that screen tells you plainly if the new one is taken too.

The signup code lasts 24 hours. If it expired, never arrived, or you're an Owner from before confirmation existed, tap Confirm your email on Family and then Send me a new code. Each new code replaces the one before it, so use the newest email you got and ignore the rest.

You'll then see your household code. Share it with your household — it's how they get in. You can find it again any time under Family, and replace it from Household settings if it ends up somewhere you'd rather it hadn't.

Creating a household makes you a Game Master, so you can set quests, approve them, and pay out. You can play too. You're also its Owner — the role that recovers a forgotten password by email; see Household settings.

Joining a household

Choose Enter a household code. You'll need the code, a username of your choosing, and a password.

Your username only has to be unique inside your household, so there's no hunting for one nobody has taken.

Joining makes you a Player. A Game Master can change that afterwards.

Building your character

Straight after joining you'll pick how your character looks — skin tone, hair, eyes, and mouth. Surprise me randomises everything; nothing is saved until you confirm.

You can change all of it later under Character, then Appearance. Nothing here is permanent.

Hats, outfits, glasses and pets come from the Shop, not from this screen, so you're choosing a face rather than an outfit.

Common issues

The code doesn't work. Codes are six characters and case doesn't matter. If it still fails, the household may have replaced it — ask for the current one.

Too many wrong passwords. Several in a row locks the account for a short while. Nothing is lost — wait, then sign in with the right one. If you've forgotten it, ask a Game Master to reset your password; if you're the Owner, use Forgot your password? on the login screen instead.

"Too many tries just now." Famify limits how often the sign-in screens can be used from one internet connection, and a household shares one. If several of you are signing in at once, wait a few minutes and try again.

My username is taken. Someone in the same household already has it. Usernames only need to be unique within a household.

I got through the code screen but the character step failed. You can continue without saving and set your appearance later from Character. Nothing is lost.

I signed up with my email but no code arrived, and Family says "Add a recovery email". The address is already on another Famify account, so it wasn't attached to this one. Tap Add a recovery email and use a different address. If you think the other account is yours, recover it from the login screen with "Forgot your password?" instead of creating a second household.

I'm in the wrong household. There's no way to move an account between households. Ask a Game Master to remove you, then join the right one with a fresh account.
